Career Goals
I have to say that in my third year of college I am lucky to know what I want to do once I graduate and have a clear idea of where I want to be in the next 5-10 years.
Growing up I never really had a clear idea of what I wanted to do career-wise, honestly, I had no clue even when I started college. I began in the school of business and as I started to take those classes I realized that there was one thing, I knew I wanted to do: help people. After almost two years of being at the University of Florida, I finally tried taking a public relations class. Only one class in and I realized I had found my calling.
With my major now switched over to public relations, I have had the opportunity to learn about all aspects related to the field. From this, I realized that I want to focus on purpose-based public relations, a section of the field that works with companies to help them better understand that profit is not the sole focus of a business.
Researching purpose-based public relations more in-depth I have found that working in this section of the field will not only allow me to help people in my community but to help the world on a global level. That purpose-based public relations can help change the way a company functions for the better through the process including but not limited to having more involvement in the community, creating a more sustainable product, and or making a more sustainable product.
My research has also acted as a guide for me to realize that I am most interested in working for one company versus a public relations firm. That I would rather see the company progress in its work to becoming a more centrally focused company over solving an issue in one company and then moving to the next. With this, my dream company to work for would be the Disney Corporation under their purpose public relations section. Being an avid Disney fan my whole life I would love to be a part of the “magic”. With this, I also want to make sure that this magic isn’t just for the consumers but for the workers as well, I want to help the company be as sustainable as possible as well as continue and finding new ways to give back to the community.
It is important to note that while these are some of my career goals, I am open-minded to altering my career path if need be. That I cannot perfectly plan my career out to the tee without expecting complications. With this I can say that I have an idea of where I want to be in the next 5-10 years and a plan on how to reach this yet, I have to be ready to experience some complications.
